Once she was sexy agent Emma Peel in TV's Avengers. She even made a hilarious comedy appearance on the Morecambe and Wise show.
But yesterday Dame Diana Rigg had a much more serious and dignified role to play when she took up her post as the first woman chancellor of Stirling University.
Dame Diana said: 'I am hoping to add a bit of glamour to the university and I am keen to be seen as a less formal figure for the students.' And to prove her point, she arrived wearing a sexy, short black skirt and white polo-neck blouse, despite being a few months short of her 61st birthday.
She insisted she would provide a good role model for the young students.
Afterwards Dame Diana said: 'This gives me the opportunity to learn more about the university which I am hoping to serve for the next ten years.' Dame Diana was appointed as its head at a special meeting of the university court last year.
She is the fourth chancellor in the university's short 32-year history with the previous incumbent being Lord Balfour of Burleigh.
Yesterday she explained she would be able to adapt her acting skills to succeed in the job. She said: 'In a way, when I am conducting meetings, I have to assume a role which is not particularly me and try to chair them the best I can.' Dame Diana will have to represent the university at public functions and she will preside over the twice-yearly graduation ceremonies.
